Chair - Resources, Head Teacher Pay Review, Parent Governor

I am a parent governor with daughters in Years 3 & 5. Currently I work as a financial controller at a bank, and recently completed a second bachelor's degree in psychology via part-time study. My background is in audit and accountancy, and I also volunteer weekly at a north London school with students sitting their GCSE Maths. My interests in lifelong development, together with experience in designing and implementing strategy, is how I hope to contribute to the governing body in ensuring the pupils experience at Little Heath is both enriching and enjoyable.

Mrs J Harris

Mrs J Harris

Vice-Chair - School Improvement, Head Teacher Pay Review, Partnership Governor

I am a Partnership Governor having moved into the area just over a year ago and wanting to get involved in the local community.
While my children were growing up I was very involved with our local pre-school. I started off as Chairman. After gaining level 3 training in child care I became Deputy Leader of the pre-school and then Leader over a period of 15 years. I was also a parent governor of my children’s primary school.
After retiring from pre-school I became a Home-Start volunteer and for 4 years helped families with children under the age of 5 on a weekly basis.
I also enjoy aqua aerobics, bridge and flower club and hopefully my experience with primary aged children will be of benefit to Little Heath.

Mrs K Custis

Mrs K Custis

Head Teacher - School Improvement, Resources

As the head teacher, I am a full member of the governing body. I attend all board and committee meetings. I have been head teacher since January 2009. Before then, I worked in nine other schools across the length and breadth of the country. My last post was as a deputy head in Cheshunt. As well as teaching I have been involved in the governing body of different schools for over 20 years as I have always thought that the work of the governing body to be vital to the strategic development of the school. I enjoy working with the governors of Little Heath as they are all committed to moving the school forward and I know that with their continued support the school will continue to flourish and grow.

Teacher Governor - School Improvement, Resources

I am a teacher governor, deputy head and Year 6 teacher; I have worked at Little Heath for the last 10 years. Teaching is my second career – I was a newspaper photographer in a previous life but decided to change direction as I became more involved in the education system via the experiences of my two sons. My main area of interest is the process of learning – how children engage and achieve and how assessment enhances this process. I sit on the resources and school improvement committee, which helps me to achieve a clear overview of the strategic development of the school.

Mr D Spring

Mr D Spring

Associate Member (Teacher)

I am an associate Governor, and have been for the past couple of years. I am the Year 2 teacher and also Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 leader. I came into teaching quite late after working in the food industry for a number of years. I believe primary school to be a place where children acquire a love of learning and where all children are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Mrs V Birchell

Partnership Governor - School Improvement, Complaints Panel

I have lived in Potters Bar since 1969 and have worked with my husband, who is a structural engineer, for around thirty years. I am now (almost) retired and am pleased to have joined the governing body of Little Heath School as I have an interest in primary education. I enjoy my membership of the U3A, sit on two local charitable trusts and have a connection to the charity International China Concern, which supports China's abandoned children. My children attended Little Heath School many years ago and I look forward to once again being involved with the school.

Community Governor - School Improvement, Complaints Panel

I am a Community Governor. Both my daughters went to Little Heath School in the 1980s and it is with gratitude for the wonderful teaching and support that they received then that I would like, in turn, to support the School in any way that I can. I have taught children with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia for many years, and my particular passion is communication – communicating ideas in a way that they are understood by children who, perhaps, have unusual ways of looking at things; who have brains which work in a ‘different’ way.
